10 Cancer Fighting Foods

Losing weight is one way to reduce your risk of getting cancer, and that means eating less of certain things.

Did you know that you can also fight cancer by eating more of certain foods? Here’s a list of the top-10 cancer fighting foods, thanks to Dr. Bob over at CitrineSun.com. All of them will also help you lose weight.

My kids recently discovered the joy of fresh blueberries. Now, they can’t get enough of them. I love to see them eat something so wholesome. Meanwhile, in my head I’m calculating how many dollars and cents those blueberries add up to, because they are not cheap! I think they work out to about $0.17 per berry at the current price in my local market.

Like all the foods on Dr. Bob’s list, they are worth every penny, because berries are powerful cancer fighters. Because these foods are natural, healthy and full of fibre, they can serve as a delicious, satisfying stand-in when you’re about to reach for an unhealthy snack or meal. That will help you lose weight.

Top 10 Anti-Cancer Foods

  1. Beans and soy beans
  2. Berries
  3. Grapes
  4. Green leafy vegetables
  5. Cruciferous vegetables
  6. Tomatoes
  7. Green Tea
  8. Spices
  9. Whole Grains
  10. Flaxseeds

Soy Risks

Soy is number one on Dr. Bob’s list, but when adding soy to your diet, remember two things:

  • Unless it is specifically labeled as USDA Certified Organic, most soy products are genetically modified, which brings possible serious health risks. When buying soy, always go organic.
  • You want whole soy foods, like tofu, tempeh or soymilk. You don’t want foods that contain “soy protein isolate,” which can stimulate the IGF-1 factor growth hormone in your body, which can stimulate the growth of cancer.
  • Whole soy foods are healthy and delicious, but they are not low in calories. One reason soy tastes so good is that it’s fatty, and all that fat adds extra calories.
